Corrosivity classes

Basic conditions in accordance with the thin sheet standard: Fasteners must be of the same or higher grade than the base material and adapted to the corrosion environment in question. Corrosivity classes in accordance with SS-EN ISO 12944-2 with regard to the corrosivity of the atmosphere as well as environmental examples.

Examples of typical environments in the temperate climate zone (informative)

Corrosivity class Environmental corrosivity Environmental examples
    Outdoors Indoors
C1 Very low   Heated areas with dry air and insignificant pollutant volumes, e.g. offices, shops, schools, hotels.
C2 Low Atmospheres with low pollutant volumes, e.g. rural areas. Non-heated areas with varying temperatures and humidity levels. Low frequency of moisture condensation and low air pollutant content, e.g. sports halls, warehouses.
C3 Moderate Atmospheres with some salt or moderate air pollutant volumes. City areas and areas of light industry. Areas influenced to some extent by the coast. Areas with moderate humidity and large air pollutant volumes from production processes, e.g. breweries, dairies, laundrettes.
C4 High Atmospheres with moderate amounts of salt or tangible air pollutant volumes. Industrial and coastal areas. Areas with a high humidity and large air pollutant volumes from production processes, e.g. chemical industrials and shipyards.
C5-I Very high (Industrial) Industrial areas with high air humidity and an aggressive atmosphere. Areas with almost permanent moisture condensation and large air pollutant volumes.
C5-M Very high (Marine) Coastal and offshore areas with large amounts of salt. Areas with almost permanent moisture condensation and large air pollutant volumes.

We are continually adapting our production to the experiences that emerge in various independent investigations and tests. We also conduct field tests ourselves in order continually to follow up the quality of our products. Construction screws made of carbon steel for outdoor use in corrosivity class C3 are zinc plated a minimum 25μm, chromeplated and painted with two-component polyurethane paint or polyester powder.
